At Printhouse we love taking on various types of printing projects. In this post however, I would like to put the spotlight on publications such as magazines and newsletters for any institutions from schools to charities. For this, we use our Heidelberg 102/6 colour litho printing press, printing on B1 sheets. Litho printing remains the best quality for putting ink on paper and at over 13,000 B1 sheets per hour, it is also the fastest and thus most suitable process. Besides the quality and being effective, we are flexible too in the size of the publication, page count and the paper to be used. For example, the paper thickness can range from 70gsm to 450gsm.
To demonstrate, I am including a few examples of different publications. Different in size, paper and page count, but all produced to be of high quality.
Mossbourne newsletter
With Mossbourne Community Academy’s success as one of the first ‘City Academies’ and lauded as one of the top performing inner city schools in England, they approached Printhouse Corporation a few years ago to help them with their printed stationery, but also with their newsletter. We produce their newsletter twice a year, from design and layout to print.
The design of the newsletter is at A3 finished size, saddle stitched. The first issue was 8 pages, but because of its popularity and increasing accomplishments of the school, it has grown to the average of 16 page issues. It is printed full colour on a nice uncoated 120gsm Cocoon Offset 100% that is also recycled paper.
Brampton College newsletter
Printhouse has a long standing, over 10 years, printing relationship with Brampton College. We help them with various printed projects such as their prospectuses, annual fee sheet, calendar and student results. Then of course, also their biannual newsletter.
We work closely with the college on the design and keeping the design and layout up to date over the years. Then to also organise the content and images to ensure the best fit and overall professional look.
This layout, which I find to be another good way of doing it, is a 6 pager roll fold. The newsletter is printed in full colour on 170gsm, silk finish paper. This allow for a high quality look and feel with bright images and steady hold.
Population Matters magazine
Population Matters, is a charity that focus on how population growth contributes to resource depletion, environmental degradation and social issues. They provide advocacy, education and research on reproductive health, women’s rights, moderate consumption and smaller families.
A few years ago, Population Matters approached Printhouse to help them with all of the their printed materials. One of the most exciting items to work on is their magazine. Members receive the magazine twice a year, in spring and autumn. It features analysis, news, reviews, letters and articles of a less technical or academic nature of the charity.
The magazine usually has a page count of 24 pages, including cover. We print it for them in full colour on a satin finish paper, for bright high quality photographs. It is produced at A4 size to make it cost effective for distribution.
